BOYS’ SINGLES First Round
Very little activity has been displayed by ranked players, especially on the women's ladder, during recent weeks. 'is apathetic attitude is to be deplored at this juncture, in view of the representative fixtures which lie ahead, as every player should endeavour to find his right level on the ladder and perhaps assure himself of a position in the South Canterbury representative team. The benefit derived from a hard-fought ladder match should sharpen up the play of a prospective representative so that he should give a good account of himself in the event of ultimate selection to represent South Canterbury.
W. E. Renton regained the premier position on the men’s ladder by defeating P. Durning in an interesting game, 1-6. 6-3. 6-3.
Following are the results of other matches played recently:—
G. R. Innes-Jones beat S. McWhirter for fourth place. 6-4. 6-3.
S. McWhirter beat J. S. Satterthwaite for fifth place, 6-3. 2-6. 6-1.
W. A. Lewis beat C. Mackay, 6-0, 4-6. 6-3. J. Rosevcar beat C. Mackay, 2-6, 6-2, 6-4.
W. A. Lewis beat E. Sanders 10-8, 7-5, and G. T. Keen 6-1, 1-6, 6-3.
