WEAK DEMAND FOR BEEF GOOD MUTTON DEARER By Telegraph Press Association DUNEDIN, January 17. The entry of fat cattle at Burnside to-day was 340 head, compared with 280 a week ago. The demand was not keen. Values receded by 20/- to 30/a head for prime sorts and continued to ease throughout the auction. Values were:—
Steers— £ s. d. £ s. d. Extra prime .. to 19 7 6 Prime 16 12 6 to 17 17 6 Medium .... 12 2 6 to 13 12 6 Light, from .. 8 17 6 Cows and heifers— Extra prime .. to 12 7 6 Prime 8 7 6 to 10 12 6 Medium .... 6 0 0 to 7 12 6 Light, from .. 3 17 6 Several pens of three and lour--year old bullocks were included in the entry of 200 store cattle. Fat Sheep The offering of fat sheep numbered 1452, compared with 1743 last week. Prime heavy sorts met with a keen demand and prices were 2/to 3/a head better. Values were: — Extra prime wethers .. to 33/6 Prime 29'3 to 31/6 Medium 26/3 to 28'Light, from .. .. 19'6 Extra prime ewes .. .. to 29/Prime 25/to 27/Medium 20'9 to 23/Light, from 13/Fat Lamb Nearly 790 fat lambs were forward. Butchers competed freely for all heavy weights. Values were:— Extra prime to 27/6 Prime 25/to 27/6 Medium 21/3 to 22 9 Light 1 ?/6 to 19/3 Pigs Bacon pigs were in a majority in i the yarding of 170 head The ope nine of the auction found prices down by 6/a head. There was a steady improvement as the sale went on. and last week’s values prevailed at the close.
