BRILLIANT OPENING STAND By Telegraph —Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, December 10. A brilliant opening stand of 277 by W. A. Hadlee and J. H. Eathorne for Old Boys against Old Collegians was the feature of the second day’s play in the fifth round of the Canterbury Cricket Association’s competitions. The defeat of Lancaster Park by East Christchurch gives Old Boys the lead in the competition by one point from Lancaster Park, East Christchurch being two points further away. Scores: West Christchurch 219 (Nee 85. Ken--55, Gregory 31. Mulccck 8 for 73) and 86 for 5 (Gregory 29 not out. Nee 28) beat St. Albans 151 and 180 for 7 dec. (O’Brien 62. Old Boys 335 for one declared (Eathorne 149 not out, Hadlee 140, Menzies 30 not out) beat Old Collegians 242 and 40 for 2 by 93 runs on the first innings. Syndeham 258 (Oliver 58. Wise 43.
