All Round Increase Timaru Appraisement Halfbred Reaches 17|d The first Timaru wool appraisement under the British Government’s purchase scheme was concluded on Thursday, entailing the examination of 13.326 bales. Prices on the average show an advance of between 2d and 3d on the proceeds of the December sale last year. The wool generally was lighter in condition than last year and a faitproportion was wasty and tender. Top price of 171 d went to a line of fine halfbred, while a choice line of merino hogget brought 17.1 d. Super merino made 16d as against 14d in December 1938. At the opening sale last year extra super halfbred brought up to 15d, whereas this week this class of wool was appraised at 17*, a rise of 2id. An increase of 2i‘d is noticed for super halfbred, while the average increase this year is 3d. Medium halfbred, as against last year’s price, shows an increase of 3ld. As the appraisal concluded on December 14, the prompt date will be December 28. A deduction of 5 per cent, of the gross proceeds will be retained as a balancing fund so that it will not be possible until the end of the season to ascertain the amount each grower will receive.
