Mr R. Gilpin, who has been teaching at Seatoun School, Wellington, for over 13 years, is being transferred to Chatham Islands. Mr J. F. D. Jeune, engineer-clerk to the Mackenzie County, who has been abroad for the past nine months studying public administration and local government, has returned to New Zealand and is at present in Wellington. Mr Trevor Julian, formerly of Auckland, has been appointed as a pilot-officer in England in control of guns in a squadron of heavy bombers. His brother, Mr Geoffrey Julian, has been appointed second in command of a minesweeper. Both are King’s College boys and received their naval and Territorial training in Auckland. Mr J. Lithgow, who has resigned from the staff of the Canterbury Farmers’ Co-operative Association wool store after six years’ service, was met by members of the staff on Thursday and tendered a farewell and presentation. The presentation was made by Mr J. Hurst, and Mr G. P. Lawson expressed appreciation of Mr Lithgow's work and regret at his impending departure. Mr H. P. Kent, who has resigned his position as manager of the Timaru branch of Wright, Stephenson and Company, Limited, was met last evening by representatives of the Timaru and Ashburton Office staffs, a presentation being made on behalf of the combined staffs by Mr A. A. McDonald, who expressed regret at Mr Kent having to resign owing to ill-health. Mr Kent was also presented with a gift from members of the Timaru staff. The recipient suitably replied, and thanked each member of the staff for their loyal co-operation. A former dean of Hamilton, the Rev. G. R. Barnett, at present vicar of Ifield, Sussex, was instituted by the Bishop of Chichester to the cure of St. Luke’s, Queen’s Park, Brighton, England, yesterday. For some years Mr Barnett was a member of the Auckland diocesan clergy, and when the diocese was subdivided, became dean of Hamilton. After five years he resigned the cathedral parish and went to England, accompanied by his wife, in 1932. Mrs Barnett was visiting New Zealand when war broke out, and she has been unable to return to rejoin her husband.
