Nelson Eddy. Battlefield and Cruiser appear to be most highly regarded for the John Hole Handicap. The consistent but unlucky Toor. , with Quest and Bill B. have plenty of admirers for the Parcora Handicap.

The continuance of dry weather has amply justified the irrigation operations at the Washdyke racecourse. Had the track rema’ned in its dry state the going would have been hard and dusty, and scratchings might have

been numerous, but trainers will have nothing to complain of on this account and the track should be excellent. The field for the John Hole Memorial, the main event on Saturday's card at Washdyke, will total 10 or 11. just the ideal number for a six-furlongs track. The backmarkers are Battlefield and Horsepower, on 48 behind. They have a fairly stiff task in front of them, but Battlefield has won at his last two starts, and his real ability has not yet been revealed. The 36yards markers are Nell Grattan and Silver Guy. The mare has the best recent form, but up till the time Silver Guy contracted strangles last season he looked to be on the way to real class. After resuming work he was not solid in his gait, but he went evenly at a -fast clip at Addington, and if his improvement has been progressive he might be dangerous. A trip to Auckland is contemplated for Jackaranda 12, ana Saturday’s race may be the deciding factor. Cruiser is a good stayer but is not altogether reliable. Acuity 12 has won <.t Washdyke and is brilliant, but there is a doubt concerning her ability to stay two miles. The limit division comprises Jesse Owens, Red Pigeon. Walter Gay. and the star four-year-old Nelson Eddy, who is certain to pace a fine race if he begins correctly.
