MEETING OF BREED ASSOCIATION ’ I • By Telegraph—Press Association INVERCARGILL, December 14. Members from Taranaki, Auckland Canterbury and Otago were amou, those present at the general meeting of the New Zealand Friesian Association. Mr R. 8. Tait moved, "that the ward system for the election ot members of the council be instituted.’ < During a long discussion doubt was expressed whether a satisfactory ward system could be arranged. Ai amendment, moved by Mr G. H. Hassall and seconded by Mr R. F. Dickie. , that the council be asked to consider the question and present a report ' at the next annual meeting was carried. Cups given by the association, which are to become the property of the winners, were presented by the president as follows: Champion bull, Mr A. J. Rainey (Kaiapol); cow, Mr J. J. Stott (Oamaru); Grigg Jubilee Cup, Breeders senior group, Mr J. Brown (Waianiwa). Twenty-eight new members were i elected and 14 herd names registered at a subsequent meeting of the council of the Friesian Association. Prize money for the 1939 Derby was fixed r.t £5O. Mr F. H. Hammond (Richmond, Nelson), was appointed official judge. Messrs J. J. Stott (Oamaru), McHattie (Outram), D. H. Kennedy (Windsor), and James Woodbridge (Auckland) were also appointed subject to passing the practical judging test. A remit from the Canterbury branch, stating that the conditions governing the official test be altered to permit the use of bail releasers, was approved, and it was decided to seek the co-operation of the New Zealand Jersey Association in bringing the matter before the director of the dairy division.
