TRIBUTE TO NURSE
Winner Of Essay Competition Function At Timaru Hospital At the meeting of the South Canterbury Hospital Board yesterday, the chairman, Mr E. Macdonald, referred to the annual essay competition conducted under the auspices of the New Zealand Registered Nurses’ Association among nurses in the different training schools throughout the Dominion. The essays were judged by the matron and medical superintendent at each nurses’ training school and the winning essays were forwarded to Wellington where they were judged and the final winner was awarded the Florence Nightingale Lamp. Nurse E. M. Daniels had won the competition at the' Timaru Public Hospital and she would be presented with a book prize forwarded by the New Zealand Registered Nurses’ Association. Mr Macdonald continued that the matron, Miss M. L. Lindsay had suggested that he should make the presentation of the prize to Nurse Daniels at a small function at the hospital after the Board meeting, and had invited Board members to attend. Miss Lindsay thought that such a little function would stimulate the interest of the pupil nurses and encourage them to enter for the competition in the future.
On the motion of Mr B. R. Macdonald the Board congratulated Nurse Daniels on her success, and the members accepted the invitation to attend the function at the hospital. The medical superintendent, Dr J. C. McKenzie, mentioned that a Hokitika Hospital nurse had won the Florence Nightingale Lamp in the recent national competition.
