QUIET PERIOD ON FRONT

United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received November 17, 1.30 am.) PARIS, November 16. A French communique announced that no notable news had been received during the night. A German communique states that there has been nothing of importance on the West Front except slight local activity. Reports from state that the Official News Agency says the air rai r; on the Shetlands, Scapa Flow, ind the Firth of Forth are only a beginning.
A British Admiralty and A* Ministry announcement states: “Reports from Berlin describing the air attack on the Shetlands on Monday by aircraft are untrue. No ship or flying - boat was damaged.’’ Praise For French The Dominion Ministers, who na 'j been on : tour of the front line, landed at a Channel port to-day C rc France. The Dominions Secretary (Mr R. A. Eden) in a statement said: “’V? were greatly impressed by the strength of the defences and France’s preparedness. An army officer commanding the sector which the Dominion Ministers visited said that France at times was misunderstood. She has been depicted as fickle a*id frivolous, but she has a tenacity second only to Britain’s. The Allies, said Mr Eden, would hold on until the final triumph. England anc. the Dominions were resolved that future u enerations would be spared a recurrence of Teuton : fury.
