SINKING OF REGENT TIGER
United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph -Copyright (Received September 12, 8.10 p.m.) LONDON, September 12. Four members of the crew and three passengers from Regent Tiger landed in England. It was revealed that they encountered a U Boat at 1.5 a.m. on September 8. 400 miles from the Scilly Islands off the coast of Cornwall, while pursuihg a zig-zag course. The submarine fired four shells. The crew and passengers abandoned ship and had pulled away 400 yards w’ en flames shot up and the vessel sank in 10 minutes. A Belgian liner picked up the survivors two and a half hours later. A message from New York states that the liner Scanpenn sent a radio message stated that she Is rescuing the crew ot the British steamer Firby which had
been torpedoed 250 miles north-west of tl Hebrides. The Firby, owned by the Ropnei Shipping Company, w.'.s of 4868 tons. L .e v\is biult in 1926. Gibraltar batteries opened fire on a Netherlands freighter for failing to halt. The master was fined the cost cf the ammunition.
