CHOIR CONTEST
TIMARU COMMITTEE A meeting of the Centennial Choir Committee was held last evening in the Council Chambers, the Mayor (Mr W. G. Tweedy) presiding over a good attendance. The Mayor reported that he had received advice that at a meeting of the National Centennial Music Committee, it had been decided that the original arrangements for the choir contest should be adhered to, the competitions in each district to be held before the end of April. Mr A. W. V. Vine was appointed conductor of the choir and Mr A. C. Mclnnes deputy-conductor. It was resolved to advertise inviting those desirous of becoming members of the choir to forward applications in writing to the secretary by the end of the present month, stating the section in which they desired to sing. A hope was expressed that there might even be sufficient support forthcoming to warrant the formation of two choirs The point was emphasised that membership was not confined to church choirs, but was open to all suitable voices in the town. It was decided to invite Mr C. Brunsden to become a member of the committee.
