EVERYTHING PRACTICALLY READY I’elegraph—Press Association WELLINGTON. September 11. Mr T. C. A. Hislop, chairman of directors of the Exhibition Company, to-day denied rumours that the opening of the exhibition would be delayed. Everything was now practically ready for the opening, he said. All (he overseas exhibits expected were, with very few exceptions, here or available. A nest of termites, the dreaded Australian white ants, now established in parts of New Zealand, will be exhibited at the Centennial Exhibition. Live ants will be seen carrying out their depredations to imber under natural conditions. The Dominion Museum entomologist, Mr J. T. Salmon, is looking after t e insects, which were obtained in the Auckland district. They are already ( • lishc'’ .n woodwork between two panes of plate glass. Although the wood is seasoned puriri, one of the haiclest and most resistant native timbers, th v are naking brisk headway and eating away. The utmost precautions are being taken to prevent their escape or propagation outside their case.
