ST. ANDREWS
DRAMA FESTIVAL Supporters of community drama throughout the Waimate Federation of Women’s Institutes filled the St. Andrews Public Hall to capacity when the elimination festival was held. One act plays were staged by Otipua, Waituna, Esk Valley and Waihaorunga. At the conclusion of the festival the players and visitors were entertained at supper and the acting was reviewed b;/ Miss L. M Inglis, of Timaiu, who selected the “Maid of Domremy” (Esk Valley players) as the winning play. Miss Inglis said the achievements oi the .’Ompeta-t' teams would be a welcome addition to the festival in Timaru Mrs W. E. IWills (president ot the Waimate Federation) congratulated the teams whicn had taken part m the group festival and manked all who had assisted that night. A oiief address was given by Mr A. E. Lawience, ot the South Canteioury Drama League, who congratulated the members of the winning team. In reply Mrs L. R Bishop expressed pleasure at the success of the team and said they were greatly indebted tj Mr W. Burns (producer) and Mr Reid for lighting effects. Shoulder sprays were presented to Miss Ing'is Mrs Lawrence and Miss M. Wilkie. Incidental music was supplied by Miss M. Wilkie and Mr rurpie. The Otipua Institute presented ‘The Bride,’’ Waituna “Albert Gates ” Waihaorunga “After tne Tempest’’ and Esk Valley “The Maid of Domremy.” After the plays the hall was cleared and dancing was enjoyed. Music was supplied by Mrs Bishop. Messrs J. Bishop and J Turpie. Mr J. E. Elack was M.C.
