McDonald. S. I. Fitch and W. G. Paul. A further application was received from Mr S. G. Jacobs for an additional taxi licence.—No action was taken. The Department of Labour wrote stating that, where single men were being employed under Scheme 13. and where married men were registered fit and eligible for work the married men should be given preference whereever possible.—The letter was received. The librarian (Mrs S. L. Claridge) reported that a total of 2741 books had been issued in June. The number of subscribers stood at 471 and receipts amounted to £4 17 6. An application was received from Mr C. Crawford. Maud Street, for a connection to the town water supply for his property in Upper Mill Road.—The application was granted subject to the usual conditions. The borough gardener (Mr N. M Morrison) reported that leaves had been cleaned up and pruning done in Victoria Park. Some of the oak broken off with wind had been cut down. A total of 2000 trees had been planted in Knottingly Park. It was decided to increase the town clerk's salary by £25 per annum.
