HOME-TRAINING HOSTEL At a meeting of the Board of Managers of the Stratheona Home-training Hostel those present were:—Mesdame: A. H. Gillingham (chairwoman), E. S Andrew’s, C. C. Douglas, B. E. Evans W. J. Fletcher, H. B. S. Johnstone, T W. Satterthwaite, S. Unwin, and J. A McLeod, hon. secretary. The matron (Mrs Harper) reportec that there had been 33 visitors for th< month. weekly instruction on nutrition and personal hygiene and Mrs McLeod had given weekly cookery demonstrations and lessons in home management. Two W.E.A. boxes had been the source of I much interest to the trainees. Miss Mcßean was continuing to take drill once a week. Mesdames Andrews, Fletcher, and Gillingham, visitors for the month, made constructive suggestions, and commented on the satisfactory condition of the grounds. A letter had been received from the Y.W.C.A. inviting trained assistants to visit the hostel in Elizabeth Street when in Tirnaru. The gift of a gramophone and 50 records from Mrs Arthur Ward was very much appreciated and the secretary reported that several donations had been gratefully received. Two further applications for enrolments as trainees were received. It was decided to accept Miss Millicent Jennings’s offer of assistance at an entertainment to be held at the end of July in aid of Stratheona funds.
