OBITUARY
MR T. VV. MABEN Tile death occurred on Monday of Mr Thomas William Maben, secretary of the Auckland Rugby Union, and a well-known public accountant, following a heart seizure. He had not been in the best of health since a severe illness two years ago. Mr Maben spent his youth in Timaru, where he went to school. He played football for the Pirates Rugby Club, and represented South Canterbury. He was also a member of the Timaru Rowing Club. Before the war he was assistant town clerk of the Timaru Borough Council, and he served during the war with the Medical Corps, gaining the rank of captain. On his return he was sent to Rotorua to organise the King George Hospital, where was was adjutant for two years. In 1921 Mr Maben went to Auckland and set up practice as a public accountant, being a partner in the firm of Maben and Porter. That year he was also appointed secretary of the Rugby Union. At one time secretary of the New Zealand Wrestling Association, Mr Maben later became first secretary of the Auckland Wrestling Association. He was also secretary of Auckland Speedways, Limited. Mr Maben is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.
