WEDDING
MAITLAND—KELLAND Many visitors from both North and South Canterbury were present at St. John’s Church, Highfield, yesterday afternoon for the marriage of Muriel Olive, only daughter of Mr and Mrs A. P. Kelland, “The Barton,” Fairview, and Cyril Francis, second son of the late Mr W. H. Maitland, and Mrs Maitland, Auckland. The church was decorated with autumn shaded chrysanthemums and leaves. The Rev. Nelson Wright performed the ceremony, Miss Rudge was organist, and Mr Kelland gave his daughter away. The bride’s frock of pearl tinted chiffon velvet was made with a gracefully draped bodice, with deep V neckline finished in front with a spray of orange blossom and long sleeves fully shirred at the shoulders and pointed over the hands. A feature of the frock was the wide swathed belt extending down over the hips of the flared skirt. The long train was caught at the hem-line with sprays of orange blossom and true lovers’ knots. Her silk embroidered tulle veil fell from a coronet of orange blossom to a point beyond the train. Her bouquet was composed of fuchsias, gladioli and chrysanthemums. Wallflowered coloured chiffon velvet frocks were worn by the three bridesmaids, Misses Bertha Sandrey, Nancy Williamson (Hawera) and Joan Holdgate. Made alike, the skirts were cut on Princess lines in front and flared from the hips to the hemline. The bodices with V neck-lines were buttoned at the back with gold filigree buttons, the long sleeves being fully shirred at the shoulders. Their turbans of velvet, which matched their frocks, were swathed with gold lame and they carried bouquets of gold abutilons. Mr K. Kelland was best man, Messrs R. Morris and G. Sandrey were groomsmen and Messrs L. Sandrey and L. Kenyon acted as ushers. During the signing of the register a solo was sung by Mrs W. I. Tait. As the bride and bridegroom left the church they were presented with silver horseshoes by Billy Raddon and Robin Kent. A reception was later held at "The Barton,” Fairview, where the guests were received by Mr and Mrs Kelland. Unfortunately, through ill-health the bridegroom’s mother was unable to be present. Tire rooms were arranged with sweet-peas and chrysanthemums. Mrs Kelland wore a coat of London tan trimmed with schanette fur and a frock of wool georgette to match. Her peach bloom felt hat was of the same shade with eye veil and ostrich plume. She carried a bouquet of tangerine abutilons and Edith Cavell chrysanthemums. For travelling the bride wore a suit of lido green wool with jumper in tones of rust, yellow and green, a smart felt hat with rolled brim and eye veil, and a squirrel coat. Mr and Mrs C. F. Maitland will make their home at “Dalzell,” Albury.
