Temporary Stand Collapses SENSATION IN BOXING MATCH By Telegraph—Press Association INVERCARGILL. May 31. A sudden shout of warning, followed jby the sound of splintering timber, heralded the collapse of a wooden ; stand seating about 200 persons on the | stage of the Civil Theatre this evening i during the interval of a boxing tournament in the theatre. Men, women and | children were seated on the stand i which occupied the extreme back of the stage, and before the spectators in | other parts of the theatre realised what was happening, the occupants of i the stand were thrown into the wildest ' confusion as the structure swayed in the direction of the double doors and j then subsided in a mass of splintered , timber. Although nobody was seriously I injured, several persons suffered paini ful hurts and were admitted to hospital. while many others suffered from l shock and bruises. The injured were, j Raymond Grenfell, aged 14, injuries to ribs; condition satisfactory. I Mrs L. Thwaites, body abrasions; I condition not serious. i John Thompson, married, fractured ' jaw. , Harold Black, injury to foot. The boxing bout, which was between ■ Les Adams (Ashburton) 10-6 and Dick Baker (Invercargill) 10.2, was won by I the latter on points.
