TABLE TENNIS
SOUTH CANTERBURY ASSOCIATION
PROSPECTS FOR NEW SEASON
Judging by the enthusiasm shown at the annual meeting of the South Canterbury Table Tennis Association
last night, the prospects are bright for the coming season. The president, Mr G. C. Reid, occupied the chair. In moving the adoption of the annual report (previously published), the president remarked that the Association had had a very successful year considering that it was a small organisation. Twenty-one teams took part in the inter-club competition and the various functions held during the year had proved most successful. The annual tournament had been an outstanding success, but as it had been a difficult task to get all the matches through, it had been suggested that the championship and handicap sections should be conducted separately. However, that was a matter for the executive to decide. The Association showed a credit balance of £5/11/7 on the year's working. Mr Reid, who
congratulated the honorary secretary, Mr F. J. O’Gorman, on the excellent report which he had presented, referred to his valued services and to the cooperation he had received from the committee. The motion was seconded by Mr P. J. Kent and carried without discussion. Election of Officers The election of officers resulted as follow: Patron. Mr W. G. Tweedy; vicepatron, Mr R. Lee, senr. (Temuka); president, Mr G. C. Reid; vice-presi-dents, Messrs G. H. Andrews, L. P. Collins, R. L. Eames, E. D. Mcßae. R. G. Slade, E. W. D. Unwin and A. N. Oakey; honorary secretary and treasurer, Mr F. J. O'Gorman; committee, Misses S. Drum. T. Burton, K. Smythe, Messrs R. Thomson, P. J. Kent, J. Anderson and C. Grayburn; match committee, Miss S. Drum, Messrs R. Thomson and P. J. Kent; honorary auditor, Mr R. R. Ellis.
A short discussion took place on the question of adopting official colours. Black and white, which, it was stated, was practically universal among table tennis players throughout the world, and green and black, the South Canterbury sports colours, were proposed. The voting was the same for each, so the decision was defeTed till a later meeting. On the motion of Misses T. Burton and N. Leslie it was agreed to adopt an official Association monogram.
On behalf of the Timaru Herald Company’s Table Tennis Club. Mr A. D. Mangos applied for affiliation to the Association. Mr Mangos intimated that the Club proposed to enter two B grade teams in the men’s competition.
The application was granted.
