SERVICES TO BE RETAINED IN THE MEANTIME

Subsidised workers employed by the City Council under No. 13 Scheme re to be retained in their jobs in the. meantime according to advice received by the Council from the Christchurch office of the Employment Division of the Labour Department. This does not apply to men aged 60 or over who are eligible for the age benefits under the Social Security Act. These men will be dismissed at the end of the week.

Altogether the Council employs 750 subsidised men and of these about 85 will be put off under the age clause of the Act. The advice from the local Employment Office adds that advice regarding the men retained will be forwarded in the course of a few days.
