THE CHURCHES

The first of another series of people’s services, to be held at St. Mary’s on the Sunday evenings during Lent, will be conducted by the vicar, the Ven. H. W. Monaghan, to-morrow evening at 6.30 p.m. The subject of the addresses will be “Jesus and Life.” Other services will be Holy Communion at 7 a.m. and 8 a.m., Matins at 11, the preacher being the Ven. H. W. Monaghan.

The services in St. John’s Parish are advertised in this issue. At the evening service at St. John’s the vicar commences a series of addresses on “What the Church of England teaches.” The services at St. Paul’s, Highfield, will be conducted by Rev. James Baird. Both services to-morrow at Chalmers Church will be conducted by the minister.

Family pew service, at which the families of the church will sit together in the “family pew,” will be observed at the Baptist Church to-morrow at 11 a.m. At 6.30, the Rev. A. L. ”ilcock will continue his series of addresses on the hereafter, the title of the address being "Can we communicate with the dead?”

The pulpit at Woodlands Street Church will be occupied to-morrow morning by Mr W. Beswarick and in the evening by Pastor Saunders, of the Vivian Street Church of Christ. Waimataitai at 11 a.m., the Rev. I. Hopper will be the preacher and Mr I. Powell will take the evening service. Fairview at 2.30 p.m., Rev. C. Blair. Congregation meeting, Woodlands Street Church, at 8 p.m., on Wednesday, March 1.

Banks Street services will be conducted by Mr Chiles in the morning and Mr E. J. Thompson at night. “Christ Jesus” is the subject of the lesson-sermon in all Churches of Christ, Scientist, to-morrow. The Golden Text is “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom. . . . And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him” (Colossians 3:16, 17).

The services at Trinity Presbyterian Church will be conducted by the Rev. F. H. Wilkinson.
