"The Daily Mail’s” correspondent at Arusha says: The people of Tanganyika are petitioning the King to confirm the British Ministers' repeated pledges that it will remain British. TEMPERS BECOMING FRAYED GROWING AGITATION IN TANGANYIKA bulled Press Association—By Electric telegraph—Copyright (Received November 1, 12.10 a.m.) DAR-ES-SALAAM, October 31. Resentment at the Government’s continued failure to make an announcement regarding the future is increasing the agitation against return to Germany. Among all types of immigrants who fear the loss of everything, is strongly featured in the growing number of meetings throughout Tanganyika. Speakers at the week-end declared that Nazi Tanganyika would mean a Nazi Africa from Egypt to the Cape, this dooming the Empire’s democracy. It is recalled that British Ministers have made repeated pledges that the colony would not be surrendered, and it is being asked whether Mr Chamberlain is now prepared to break faith with the inhabitants. Meetings have vigorously carried resolutions favouring measures to protect their own interests and simultaneously expressing loyalty to their leaders in doing their utmost to keep the movement constitution al, but they realise the colonists' tempers are fravinp under tne apprehension of ruin.

The Berlin correspondent of “The Manchester Guardian” says: "Signs continue to suggest that Italy will back an early German claim to all former colonies. African Minister’s Activities Much annoyance is professed in the reports in connection with Mr Pirow’s visit, that a bargain is being prepared, offering Germany some former colonies and some territories in other European colonial countries. Portuguese officials are satisfied with the conversations with Mr O. Pirow (South Africa Minister for Defence). It is understood that a common antiGerman front is favoured between South Africa, Angola (Portuguese West Africa), and Mozambique (Portuguese East Africa). Mr Pirow and the Prime Minister of Portugal (Dr O. Salazar), both declared that no colonies should be ceded to Germany. The Cameroons Union has made an appeal that the Cameroons should be permitted to remain subject to the French mandate. ,
