NEW UNIT OF AUSTRALIAN NAVY United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received October 30, 6.30 p.m.) SYDNEY, October 30. The newest unit of the Australian Navy, described as a boom defence ship, designed to maintain the nets of the booms and for anti-submarine work, was launched at Cockatoo dockyard yesterday. The vessel was officially named Kookaburra by Mrs P. McNeil, wife of the director of naval engineering. The new vessel, wliich is 130 feet long, is a strange looking craft. The bows are fitted with apparatus similar to cable steamers.
