DRIVERS’ DISPUTE
EMPLOYERS’ REPUDIATION By Telegraph— Press Association WELLINGTON, October 29 A statement that the employers were in no way responsible for any delay in the making of the new award for the drivers, was made by Mr H. J. Knight, secretary of the New Zealand Road Transport Alliance and the New Zealand Master Carriers' and Customs Agents' Federation of Employers, in commenting on the Auckland Press Association message, indicating the possibility of a strike among drivers.
POSITION TO BE DISCUSSED MEETING TO-MORROW NIGHT By Telegraph—Press Association AUCKLAND, October 29 “My executive met the Minister of Labour (the Hon. H. T. Armstrong), last evening, but in the meantime we cannot make any statement,” said the secretary of the Drivers’ Union (Mr L. G. Matthews) this morning. “It is the union’s intention to discuss the whole position at a meeting on Tuesday night,” said Mr Matthews, “and owing to misleading statements that have gained currency, and which, in the opinion of the executive, are calculated to prejudice the union to some extent, it has been decided that nobody will be admitted to the meeting who cannot produce his contribution card. We will thus ensure that only members of our organisation are present.”
