FAIR TO FINE Special to “ The Timaru Heraia." WELLINGTON, October 28. Winds.—Light to fresh southerly, later becoming variable with westerlies predominating inland. Weather—Fair to fine, temperatures cool to moderate. Seas—Slight to moderate. DOMINION FORECAST Genera) Situation Yesterday’s depression has passed eastward, and an anti-cyclone is advancing across the North Tasman Sea. A slight secondary depression is, however, located over the central portion of the Dominion. Forecast Winds—Light to fresh west to south prevailing, but turning north-westerly again in the far south. Seas (New Zealand waters) —Slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea—Moderate to strong west to south-west winds, and rather rough seas. Weather—Mainly fair to fine in the northern half of the North Island and south of Canterbury, otherwise cloudy to overcast and in places misty at first, with showers or drizzling rain in many places; conditions will gradually improve, however, and temperatures will be cool.

WEATHER IMPROVING Although overcast, yesterday was fine but cold. Towards evening the sky cleared considerably and gave promise of fine weather. Records at Timaru Park yesterday were:— Barometer —29.83. Max. temp.—s 4.6. Min. temp, on grass—47.6. Wind—S.S.W.3. Rainfall —.16ins. Rainfall to date this year—32.o3ins. Rainfall to date last year—l7.oBins. Sunshine—Nil. Sunshine to date this year—l4ol.2hrs Sunshine to date last year—l4s2.2hrs IN OTHER CENTRES Christchurch— Yesterday morning was overcast and cold, with a southwest wind. Light rain began falling just before mid-day, continuing until about 3 p.m., thereafter the weather cleared but it was still cold. The maximum temperature was 52.5 degrees. The barometer at 5 p.m. was 29.90, and was rising. Geraldine— Showery in morning. Dull and overcast for rest of day. Temuka— Yesterday was overcast. The maximum temperature was 56 degrees and the minimum 48. The glass is rising. Thirteen points of rain were recorded yesterday morning.
Waimate (24 hours ended 9 a.m. Friday)—Thermometer, maximum 57.8; minimum 47.5; rain, 32 points. Bright sunshine, nil. Wind gauge (miles run in last 24 hours), 89. Yesterday was lightly overcast and mild. Dunedin— Yesterday morning the sky was overcast and there was a cold breeze from the south-west. The sun came out later and the temperature reached a maximum of 62 degrees. The barometer was steady at 29.80 inches, but showed a tendency to rise in the evening.
