A children’s grand fancy dress carnival will be held in the Caroline Bay Hall on Friday next. The function is in aid of the Chinese Refugee Children’s Appeal, and will be under the patronage of the Mayoress (Mrs W. G. Tweedy).
“Skipper,” of 3YA, will visit -Timaru on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, November 12, 13 and 14. There will be a community sing on the Saturday, services at the Salvation Army Citadel on Sunday, and a monster children’s demonstration on the Monday.
“Three Pioneers” and "Gentians,” two of the one-act plays to be produced by Mrs W. E. Mills at St. Andrews on Thursday next, have particular interest for South Canterbury people. Not only are they the work of a South Canterbury writer, Mrs Mills, but are laid in New Zealand. “Three Pioneers” is a play concerning the incidents in the life of a Timaru lighthouse keeper and his wife in the sixties.
The dance attraction for to-night is at the Bay Hall, where Northdown Te Rang! Scout dance is being held. Special features will be the good supper and novelty dances.

Men of the Main Body and First Reinforcements are to hold their annual reunion in the Wentworth Rooms, Church Street, to-night, commencing at 7.30.
A sports flannel dance will be held in the Gleniti Schoolroom next Wednesday night. Sinclair’s orchestra will provide the music.
Timaru Scottish Society’s well-known weekly dance to-night at the Scottish Hall should, as usual, prove of interest to dancers.
Patrons are reminded of the dance recital to be held in St. Patrick’s Hall on Wednesday night.
Commencing at 1.15 p.m. on Tuesday next at 33 Latter Street (next Library), A. N. Oakey and Co. will conduct a clearing sale of the complete household furniture and effects on account of Mr T. O’Brieh, who has sold his property. Everything is for absolute sale, and full particulars appear in the auction column.
