'AIR AND MILD Special to " The Timaru Herald." WELLINGTON, September 30. Winds—Moderate northerly prevailing and later freshening. Weather—Some rain probable in the back country, but the weather otherwise fair and mild. Seas—Slight to moderate. DOMINION FORECAST General Situation An anti-cyclone is still centred over the northern extremity of the Dominion. Pressure is falling over southeastern Australia and the southern Tasman Sea. Forecast Winds—Northerly to north-westerly predominating; light in the far north and moderate elsewhere but freshening about and south of Cook Strait. Seas (N.Z. waters)—Moderate to rather rough south of Cape Egmont and about Cook and Foveaux Straits, elsewhere slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea—Northerly to north-westerly winds, moderate in the northern portion with slight to moderate seas; fresh to strong in the southern portion with rough seas. Weather—Cloudy to overcast in districts with a westerly aspect from Taranaki southwards, with intermittent rain and some heavy falls in Westland; fair to fine in eastern districts and the far north; temperatures mild. TIMARU RECORDS Sun rose at Timaru to-day 6.02 a.m.; sets 6.32 p.m. High water at Timaru 8.50 a m. and at 9.19 p.m, to-day. PHASES OF THE MOON First quarter . . . Oct. 1 11.15 p.m. Full moon .... IN OTHER CENTRES Christchurch—Yesterday was mainly overcast with a strong easterly wind which moderated slightly in the afternoon when there was intermittent sunshine. The maximum temperature was 53.8 degrees. The barometer recorded 30.088 and was falling slowly. Ashburton—The sky was overcast for the greater part of yesterday, and a chilly wind blew from the north-east. Geraldine—Dull and overcast during the day. Waimate (for the 24 hours ended 9 a.m. yesterday)—Thermometer, maximum 53.0; minimum, 42.0; bright sunshine, nil; wind gauge, miles run in last 24 hours, 83. Yesterday was overcast with light rain falling in the morning.

Dunedin— Yesterday was dull and overcast and several light showers fell during the morning. The light to moderate north-east breeze of the last few days fell away to a calm. The barometer dropped to 30.10 inches.
