WRESTLING
A LIVELY CONTEST By Telegraph—Press Association AUCKLAND, September 27. The final gong failed to halt Lofty Blomfield and Dean Detton in their almost frenzied efforts to knock each other out of the ring at the conclusion of a stirring professional wrestling cc itest staged before a capactiy house. Cautioned several times for illegal punching, the contestants were working at high pitch in the final round and the house was in an uproar as they continued to exchange blows after the gong had sounded. When the pair were finally separated and the referee raised Blomfield's hand ffi token of victory, Detton pranced round the ring in an enraged manner throwing off his seconds, who endea-voured to restrain him. Finally he happened to catch sight of the referee leaving the ring, chased him, caught him by the shirt and attempted to drag him back. As Detton continued to demonstrate he was showered with pennies, lollies and newspapers. The first fall went to the American in the fifth round when he subdued Blomfield with two heavy dumps after having weakened him with several flying tackles and headlock throws. The New Zealander staged a good recovery and he finally trapped Detton with his octopus clamp in the seventh round and won a submission fall.
