THOUSAND MARK PASSED

SUCCESSFUL Wt-R OFFICE ENTERPRISE British Official Wireless (Received September 7, 6.30 p.m.) RUGBY, September 6. Soldiers who have passed from the recruits’ physical development depots to their regimental depots, now number 1001. This passing of the thousand mark in about 16 months crowns the success of the enterprising War Office experiment. The object of the Aidershot and Scarborough depots is to take as probationer recruits men who are not up to the standard weight or chest and men on the border line with defects which might or might not be sufficiently bad to keep them out of the army, but which could possibly be treated and cured in a short while.
