The Saragossa correspondent of “The Times” reports that the Catalonian army is falling back under a pitiless aerial and artillery bombardment. The leaders appear to have given up hope for success on the right bank of the Ebro, but despite the savage fighting and thousands of casualties, neither side can claim the decision The Government troops are showing less tendency to panic than was formerly the case. It is reported from Barcelona that Junkers ’planes have bombed several coastal towns and the casualties were mostly among women and children. It is disclosed that while the Italian Ambassador in Nationalist Spain was motoring to San Sebastian at night on August 22 the police called on him to halt. The chauffeur disobeyed the order, and the police, not realising that it was a diplomatic car, fired, wounding the Ambassador's wife. The Ambassador himself was not hurt. NATIONALIST AIR RAID MANY BODIES RECOVERED FROM DEBRIS United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph - Copyright (Received August 26, 11.55 p.m.) MADRID, August 26. Twenty-four bodies have been recovered from the debris at Torrevieja after a Nationalist air raid. Over seventy were injured.
