Captain Balfour, the Under-Secre-tary for Air, visited the Duxford aerodrome and went up in one of the single-seater Vickers Supermarine Spitfires, which the Prime Minister (Mr Neville Chamberlain) recently described as “the fastest aircraft In the service of any air force." Captain Balfour, according to the newspapers, flew the Spitfire at over three hundred miles an hour. By next year the Spitfires will be in large-scale production at the new factory which Lord Nuffield is opening by arrangement with the Air Ministry.
