MINERS’ DISPUTE
OWNERS' STATEMENT AT CONFERENCE leteersnti - (Received August 27, 12.18 a.m.» SYDNEY. August 2G. Justice Cantor of the Industrial Commission had an informal talk with the coal miners’ representatives and colliery proprietors to-day in regard to the dispute in the coal mines. The owners indicated that they were not prepared to yield to the recent threats of a general strike, nor were they prepared to concede any claims mc.de by the Miners’ Federation. The conference lasted only a few ’ inutes. The main claim of the miners are a five-day week of six hours a day, without reduction in pay, a guaranteed minimum wage for all contract workers, a special Coalmining Compensations Act, the retirement of miners aged 60 on pensions of 40 - a week, 14 days paid holiday annually and weekly instead of fortnightly pays.
