PROPOSED “DEN” APPEAL FOR FUNDS | The chairman 'Mr A. M. Fyfe) pre- ' sided at a meeting of the Geraldine I Scout Committee. The question of building a Scout den was discussed and, on the motion of the chairman, it was decided that a circular letter be drawn up and posted, inviting donations towards the cost of building the den. The secretary and Mr J. D. McKechnie were appointed trustees. The secretary (Captain A. W. McArthur) reported that the members of the Geraldine Toe H had kindly offered part of the proceeds from the community sing to be held on July 28 for the den building fund. PERSONAL The Rev. Canon A. H. Norris and Mrs Norris, who have been the guests of Mrs J. R. Orford, “The Downs,” have now taken up residence at the Vicarage, Geraldine. Constable C. Grayburn. of Timaru. is relieving Constable D. Callanan, who is on sick leave. Mr D. H. Williams, formerly of the Geraldine branch of the Bank of New Zealand, who has been transferred to Dunedin, has left for the south. Mr G. R. Noy, formerly of the Geraldine branch of the Bank of New South Wales, and lately of Christchurch, has been transferred to the new branch of the Bank at George Street, Dunedin. Mrs E. R. Loach, ladies’ outfitter, Talbot Street, will offer frocks at halfprice to-morrow. Furs and other goods will also be further reduced. The Pleasant Valley ladies’ branch of the National Party will hold a dance in the Pleasant Valley Hall on Thursday, July 19. In order to raise funds, the Geraldine branch of the Farmers’ Union will hold dances in the Pleasant Valley Hall on Saturday. August 6, and in the Orari Bridge Hall on August 20. Mr Stanley H. Mayne, F.S.M.C., F. 1.0 (London) representing Procter’s, tfie Opticians. Christchurch, will be visiting Geraldine on Wednesday, July 27, and may be consulted on all defects of eyesight at the Crown Hotel from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Appointments can now be made by writing or ringing Mr Morris Williams, Chemist, ’phone 61
