PORT OF TIMARU

LATEST ADVICES The Holmdale was the only vessel to arrive at the port yesterday. She called from Oamaru last evening to I load for Wellington, Plcton and i Wanganui and departed later in the I night for Lyttelton. The Port Line vessel Port Hardy, which was loading at No. 1 wharf for London, sailed at i midnight for New Plymouth. Auckland. I Gisborne, Napier arc! Wellington. She ■ is due to clear Wellington finally for London, via Panama, on July 29. ARRIVAL July 11 Holmdale, m.v., 681 tons (Copland) from Oamaru. (IL J. R. Somerville and Co., agents.) DEPARTURES July 11 Port Hardy, s.s., 8653 tons (Lewis) for New Plymouth. (D. C. Turnbull and Co., agents.) Holmdale, m.v., for Lyttelton. The following list of steamers’ movements is compiled in accordance with advice supplied by agents for the different lines:— EXPECTED ARRIVALS Gale, Dunedin To-day Holmglen, Dunedin To-day. Waipahi, Oamaru July 13 Waipiata, Bluff July 13 Breeze, Dunedin July 15 Zealandic, Bluff July 15 Waimarino, Dunedin July 18 Port Whangerei, Dunedin .... Jul” 19 Walnui, Oamaru July 20 Port Waikato, Dunedin July 21 Waiana, Oamaru July 25 Waimana, Port Chalmers .... July 29 Tainui, Port Chalmers July 31 Waipiata, Oamaru July 31 Essex, Wanganui Aug.- 1 PROJECTED DEPARTURES Gale, Lyttelton To-day Holmglen, Lyttelton To-day Waipahi, Lytteltoil July 13 Waipiata, Lyttelton July 13 Breeze, Lyttelton July 15 Zealandic, Nelson July 16 Waimarino, Lyttelton July 18 Port Whangerei, Lyttelton .... July 19 Walnui, Lyttelton July 20 Port Waikato, Lyttelton July '2l Waiana, Lyttelton Julv 25 Tainui, Wellington Aug. 1 Waipiata, Lyttelton Aug. 1 Waimana, Wellington AUg. 1 Essex, Wellington Aug. 3 NOTES The Gale is expected from Dunedin to-day to load for Wellington and Wanganui. She should get away for Lyttelton this evening.

The Holmglen Is to load for Wellington, New Plymouth and Waikato at this port to-day. She is due from Dunedin and should sail to-night for Lyttelton. The Waipahi is listed to arrive from Oamaru to-morrow evening. After loading for Wellington, Nelson and New Plymouth she is to proceed via Lyttelton. . The Waipiata should be here from Bluff to-morrow to lift Wellington and Auckland cargo, sailing the same night for Lyttelton. Zealandic on Friday The National Mortgage and Agency Co. advise that the Shaw, Savill ship Zealandic will arrive from Bluff on Friday to discharge London Cargo. She is to proceed hence to Nelson the following day. New N.Z.S. Co. Motor Ship The placing of an order with John Brown and Co., Limited, Clydebank, by the New Zealand Shipping Company, Limited, for a twin-screw refrigerated cargo motor-ship of 14,000 tons dw similar in design to the Essex and Sussex has revived the hopes of British shipbuilders that the end of what we may term the “little depression" is in sight states the Syren and Shipping. It has to be admitted, however, that the hopes are still slender. One swallow—even of such a size—does not make a summer, and it is a regrettable fact that this New Zealand contract is the only one for a merchant vessel placed with any British yard during May. It is also the first secured by a Clyde shipyard since March. At the present time the Clydebank establishment, although well supplied with warship work—comprising a battleship, an 8000-ton cruiser, two submarine depot ships and two destroyers—has only one merchant vessel on hand, the 85,000-ton Cunard White star liner Queen Elizabeth, which is due for launching in September, so that the order from the New Zealand Shipping Company is very welcome.

Akaroa Completing The Shaw, Savill liner Akaroa is now to leave Port Chalmers to-day for Auckland to complete her Homeward loading. She is scheduled to clear the northern port finally on July 18 for Southampton and London, via the Panama Canal. ■ Temple Moat from New York Under charter to the Port Line the steamer Temple Moat is to leave New York on August 22 for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin. She is due at Auckland about September 25. Otaio Clears Dakar The New Zealand Shipping Company has received cabled advice that the motor ship Otaio cleared Dakar last Saturday. She left Wellington on June 4 for London, Avonmouth, Liverpool, and Glasgow via Cape Horn and Dakar.
