ALL BLACKS IN AUSTRALIA

ARRIVAL FIT AND WELL United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph- Copyright SYDNEY, July 11 The All Blacks, who arrived on the Wanganella, are feeling fit and well. The ship encountered a Tasman gale and a heavy swell on Saturday night, but otherwise the trip was good. The managers of the team are most optimistic and they say that they expect the side to develop into one of

the best that has ever left the Dominion. The New South Wales Rugby Union Council tendered a reception to the players this morning. The New South Wales selectors will confer to-day regarding the team for Saturday. The winger, Kelaher, has already dropped out owing to injuries, and the other winger, Moran, is Injured and unable to train. The reserve winger, O'Brien, is also unfit. The All Blacks trained in delightful crisp weather, this afternoon.

K. Hall Goes Well K. Hall had a day out on Saturday, scoring two tries and combining well with his inside men. He figured in a number of good movements. Twice he overhauled and tackled his opposing number, J. O’Connell, bringing him down from behind and he outpaced or slipped through O'Connell’s defence, which was palpably weak, on numerous occasions.

McPhail Bottled Up N. Riley kept a close check on K. McPhail, the Celtic centre threequarter, allowing him no liberties whatever. Showing plenty of speed off the mark Riley only had one trouble, a tendency to lose touch with his outside men. Several times he found a gap in the defence only to nullify his efforts by running away from Ryan into trouble.

Delury’s Fine Kicking Of the two full-backs in the CelticOld Boys’ game, Delury shaded Rollinson, who missed badly once or twice on defence. The kicking of Delury gained large slices of territory, and if he was a bit faster in his movements he would be a candidate for representative honours.

Technical Schools’ Match. The annual match between the Timaru and Ashburton Technical Schools, which was to have been played in Tlmaru last week, but which was postponed owing to rain, will now be played to-morrow at Anzac Square. In the event of this ground being unplayable, the match will take place on No. 2 ground at Fraser Park.

Harris Injured Add Tony Harris, Springbok fly-half, to the growing list of 1937 South African representatives who have been put out of action for varying periods this season. Harris injured an ankle, and was advised to rest for a few weeks.

J. E. Manchester Reappears Although the greasy nature of the ball made handling difficult in the Waimate v. Geraldine match, occasional flashes of bright passing were witnessed, particularly by members of the visiting team, who showed that, given good conditions, passing would be a feature of their play. J. McKenzie, the Waimate full-back, was on his game, and W. Murphy was also prominent, but the greasy ball spoilt most of his attempts with penalties. Golumb, Hansen, Ponsonby and Allnutt were prominent in the forwards, which were strengthened in the second half by the ex-All Black, J. Manchester, who, however, was a marked man, but he made several nice openings. As half-back J. K. Blyth, the Geraldine skipper, was a tower of strength to his side, and K. Loach also put in some useful work. P. Callanan, who made a reappearance after his recent illness, was on his game, but he threw away several likely chances. P. McShane, G. Vial and W. Judkins were prominent kt the forwards.
