FAIRLIE FARMERS’ UNION
Huge Death Rate In Lambs Appointment of Specialist Recommended “That in view of the huge dcam rate in lambs in Canterbury, the Government be asked to acquire the services of an animal pathologist who could go into the question and confer with the present veterinarians,” was a motion I carried by the Fairlie branch of the Farmers' Union. Mr W. M. Black presided, and proposed the motion, which was seconded by Mr E. R. Goultcr. and will be forwarded as a remit to the South Cantebury executive. Mr D. Jeune. Mackenzie County engineer forwarded a booklet showing how rates collected are spent in the County. A vote of thanks and congratulations was passed to Mr Jeune for his very instructive and interesting book. The appreciation of members was expressed at the action of the county engineer in advising motor travellers to avoid unnecessary travel on country roads when under snow in the interests of stock being removed. The provincial secretary (Mr A. B. Struthers) wrote stating that the question of the Government erecting houses in townships should be referred back to branches. The letter was received, it being understood that so far as Fairlie was concerned a building scheme was under way. The executive requested that the branch should make suggestions towards formulating some concrete practical plan for settling young men on the land. The president read suggestions regarding the proposal and it was agreed that they should be sent to the executive for consideration.
WATER SUPPLY LOA? He also intimated that a very favourable report on the work done in the secondary school, had been sent to the Canterbury Board by Mr T. Pool, commercial instructor.
