The Secretary of State for the Colonies, Mr Malcolm Macdonald, announced in the House of Commons the appointment of a Royal Commission to inquire into the social and economic conditions of Barbadoes, British Guiana, British Honduras, Jamaica and Windward Islands. Mr Macdonald also announced the appointment of a new Governor of Jamaica, namely Sir Arthur Frederick Richards, who k at present Governor of Fiji, in succession to Sir Edward Denham.
