The Karu should be another arrival from Oamaru to-morow night. a She will load for Nelson and New Plymouth. Melbourne Maru To-morrow D. C. Turnbull and Co. advise that the Osaka Shosen K.K. vessel Melbourne Maru will now reach Timaru from Wellington to-morrow to discharge a shipment of manure loaded at Walpole Island. She will probably sail for Dunedin on Saturday. Rangitiki Leaves Panama The Rangitiki, which sailed from London on May 26, sailed from Panama on June 10. The vessel is due to arrive at Wellington about June 29. Kaituna Renamed The former Union Line freighter Kaituna (2,042 tons), which was well I known in Dunedin some years ago, and which was sold to the Foo Hong Steamship Company, Ltd., of Hongkong, has been sold to Wallens and Co., Ltd., of Panama, and now flies the flag of the Republic of 1 Panama. She has been rechristened Need wood, the name under which she was launched in 1904 at Sunderland. New Coastal Vessel The launching of A. G. Frankham Limited’s coastal motor vessel Awanui, formerly the passenger steamer Daphne, was carried out at St. Mary’s Bay, Auckland. After seven years of idleness, the past two and a-half of which were spent in her reconstruction, the Awanui went down the slip perfectly, and was taken in tow by the launch to the Western Viaduct, where her fitting out will be completed (states the “Herald” of June 10). An interesting procedure will be followed to-morrow, when her Diesel engine is installed. The Awanui will be moved alongside the Matson liner Mariposa in the morning after the liner’s arrival from San Francisco, and the unit will be lowered into the vessel. Following on the installation of the engine work on deck structures and fittings will occupy about six weeks, and it is expected that the Awanui will be ready for her trials by the end of next month. It is estimated that the cargo capacity of the vessel will be about 200 tons, which is ■ considerably more than that of the Daphne, primarily designed for passenger accommodation. The Awanui will probably run in the service to Awanui in conjunction with the same company’s motor vessel Tiri.
