NAZI WARNING

TENSION IN CZECHOSLOVAKIA “ Like Sitting on Live Volcano ” GERMANS RESENT DELAYS United Press Assoclatlon—By Electric Telegraph Copyright I Received June 13. 6.30 p.m.) LONDON, June 12. The more hopeful feeling on ths Stock Exchange now than at the beginning of the month Is associated with a possible American revival and a further devaluation of the dollar, but the international situation continues to worry the city, which is incensed over Germany's default on Austrian loans. The "Investors Chronicle” bluntly declares: “Here is standard Nazi technique, naked and unashamed. Hitler has taken Austria's money, army, industry and independence, but not her obligations. Default was never more brazen.” Rally in Commodities The technical rally of commodities has been helped by American buying of rubber, which has regained the sixpenny level, and also of tin. The general feeling is that commodity recovery will continue at least for the time b.-ing. The International Tin Committee will meet on June 20 to consider the final details of the buffer pool which is expected to operate frem July 1. Wool for London Sales Bradford merchants have discussed with Australian producers’ representatives the possibility of sending more wool to London. It is emphasised that London must not be regarded merely as a convenient outle for unwanted Dominion surpluses, but should be allotted a guaranteed quantity on which European buyers could rely. Dairy Produce Butter remains listless. Dominions are little changed, but marked weakness has developed in Continental descriptions, which will act as a drag. Holders of Dominion stocks, hewever, are disinclined to accept present prices. The market should remain steady in the near future. Cheese is quoted down to 69s for New Zealand, and the market is inclined to weakness. TENSION GREATLY INCREASED DANGER OF SERIOUS UPHEAVAL United Press Assoclatlon—By Electric Telegraph -Copyright (Received June 13, 5.5 pun.) LONDON, June 13. The Prague correspondent of “The "Rimes” says: “A long tour of the Sudeten areas disclosed that tension has greatly increased in the last fortnight. Both the Czechs and the Germans say that anxiety and uncertainty have lessened the desire to work, anti it is not believed the precent conditions will last much longer. Czech officials declare that the authorities are in full control of the situation, but felt themselves sitting on a volcano." POLLING IN ELECTIONS NO SERIOUS INCIDENTS United Press Assoclatlon—By Electric Telegraph Copyrlgb t (Received June 13. 5.5 pan.) PRAGUE, June 13. There were only a few minor incidents in the elections. The results in the Sudeten German communities followed the previous polling, Herr Henlein’s supporters securing 85 to 90 per cent of the votes, the Czechs slightly gaining at the expense of the Social Democrats and Communists. THREE “VICTORIES” INTERNATIONAL SITUATION IN CZECHO-SLOVAKIA United Press Assoclatlon—By Electric Telegraph —Copyright (Received June 13, 11.30 pm.) PRAGUE, June 13. The British United Press states that owing to rival interpretations ot the voting based on different methods of counting, the municipal elections ended with three separate contradictory "victories” for the Government, the Sudenten Party and Father Klinka, leader of the Slovak Autonomists. This is expected to make the internal diplomatic situation a bigger deadlock. Political observers declare that the outcome is bound to lead to a stiffening in the resistance from all sides and make extremely delicate the forthcoming conversations on Herr Henleins demands.
