AID FOR FARMERS By leleerHi.t. Hies.- Asx»claMf>WELLINGTON, June 2. Following the practice in the case of severe floods, or other major disasters, the Prime Minister, the Hon. M. J. Savage, indicated to-day that the Government will assist farmers, who otherwise will be unable to carry on owing to loss sustained through facial eczema m stock. Arrangements are being made for a supply of appropriate application forms to be available at the Department of Agriculture offices at Wellington and Hamilton. An inspector will call and discuss the position with the applicant and make a report in order that the Government may be able to determine without delay the measure of assistance necessary. A small committee consisting of an officer of the Treasury Department, an officer of the Department of Agriculture and a farmers’ representative is being set up to consider applications, when received, together with departmental reports, and the committee’s recommendation will be forwarded to the Government for consideration. Mr Savage also said departmental investigations into the cause and steos necessary to prevent a recurrence are still to continue.
