COMPOUNDS SOLD TO FARMERS By Telegraph—Press Association WELLINGTON, May 31 An amendment to the law providing absolute protection for the Department of Agriculture in issuing a report on any substance offered for agricultural purposes and for anyone publishing such report in full has been asked for by the Dominion executive of the New Zeal id Farmers’ Union. It was stated ' at a recent meeting of the union executive that a compound put on the market in the South Island was supposed to deal effectively with club root. It was tried in one or two places and was considered successful. In the second year some farmers bought about £8 worth of the compound and used it with their turnips. Investigations in Britain, however, revealed that the people who were supposed to be marketing it knew nothing about it. It was considered that such substances should be controlled under an Act similar to the Fertilisers Act. Mr Stuart Sim said results had proved the substance to be of no use.
