TROTTING MEETING By Telegraph—Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, April 16. The inter-Dominion trotting championships have been postponed. The meeting will now begin on Wednesday, and continue on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The track was affected by the heavy rain over the last three days.

The Riverton Cup was first run in 1888, but was such an unpretentious affair in its early history that when in 1891 Victory scored a fourth successive win the stake was only £25. The Riverton Hunt Cup, the fore-runner of the Great Western Steeplechase, carried a prize of only £3O, and the stakes for the whole Easter Monday programme totalled only £125. Since Victory’s day the only horse to win the Cup more than once is Tugela, who had raced in the North as First Light, and at her first South Island appearance won at Washdyke under that name.

One of the greatest gallopers to win an Auckland Easter Handicap was the Black Demon, Advance, a short-pedi-gree son of Vanguard. This Auckland meeting witnessed the culmination of a series of wins which embraced the Wanganui Cup, Dunedin Cup, Century Stakes, and Autumn Handicap (11 miles) with 10.5. As a four-year-old Advance was reserved for w.f.a. events and won all his races. He performed with distinction also in Australia, although set the preposterous atsk of racing over six furlongs and 21 miles at one meeting.
