WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

CAVE There was a fair attendance of members at the April meeting of the Cave Women’s Institute. Miss Amyes presided and extended a welcome to visitors and also to Mrs and Miss Kerr, who have just returned from a visit to England. The two brides of the month Misses Doris Allan and Helen Kerr, were given posies and gifts from the members of the Institute. Mrs D. Ker assisted by Mrs McMaster, senr., gave a very interesting demonstration of hairpin work. A programme of the competitions for the years was distributed to each member. The cards were all hand-printed by Miss Alison Malthus. After afternoon tea a short concert programme was given in honour of Miss Helen Kerr who is to leave New Zealand this month to live in England. Miss Naughton gave a pianoforte solo and Mrs Baker contributed vocal solos, after which members enjoyed a community sing. The hostesses competition resulted: Mrs Malthus 1, Mrs Naughton 2. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Wilson and Amyes, Misses Doris and Eileen Chant. The competitions resulted as follows: Bowl of flowers with autumn foliage. Mrs Malthus 1 and 2, Miss D. E. Wisely 3. Savoury tea dish, Miss Amyes 1, Mrs Jones 2, Mrs Malthus 3. Supper cloth, Miss D. E. Wisely 1. Miss J. Lawrie 2, Mrs Seymour 3. Premier bloom, Miss D. E. Wisely 1, Mrs Malthus 2, Miss Naughton 3.
