BULLET IN HEART
AMAZING DISCOVERY MAN REFUSES OPERATION LONDON, March 19. Twenty-three years after being wounded in the war a French farmer has been told that a bullet is lodged in his heart. A few days ago Maurice Baileul, a farmer living near Lille, who had been twice wounded during the war, had a serious heart attack. Whe-i doctors submitted him to an X-ray examination in the local hospital they were astonished to discover a bullet lodged in the heart. It must have remained there for at least 23 years—since Bailleul's last wound before being discharged from the army. The patient has been told that the only way to avoid possible danger from the bullet is to submit to an operation for its removal, but he has refused. I have lived with it 23 years now,” he retorts. ‘‘l will take my chance of living another 23 rather than risk death under the operation.” Since returning to his farm after the invaders had been expelled from France. Bailleul has shared in all the hard work of his calling and. until the seizure that led to the bullet being discovered, he had given no signs of being afflicted in this way.
