WAGES DISPUTE

INDUSTRIAL TROUBLES IN AUSTRALIA United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received January 10, 8.55 p.m.) SYDNEY, January 10. A wages dispute has arisen at Lysaghts large galvanised iron works in Newcastle, resulting in the Ironworkers Federation serving two weeks notice of the intention to strike by the whole of the employees. The trouble originated in the new award prepared by Mr Justice Cantor of the Industrial Commission prior to Christmas. The men declare that in many instances they are now much worse off and are losing from 3/- to 4/- per day, due largely to the method of calculating piecework rates.
