OBITUARY
CAPTAIN WYBRANTS OLPHERT By Telegraph—Press Association WELLINGTON, January 7. The death has occurred of Captain Wybrants Olphert, Marine Superintendent of the New Zealand Shipping Company during the war. He was commander of the Q ship Salvia, which was sunk in action with a submarine in June, 1917. He was taken prisoner of war and kept in solitary confinement at Walhelmshaven and Freiburg, making thre fruitless attempts to escape. At the end of the war he came to New Zealand, and was appointed assistant Marine Superintendent to the company and later he succeeded Captain Bone Superintendent. He founded the Wellington Division of the Wellington R.N.V.R. about 19 years ago, and had been its command": ever since. It is generally recognised that the R.N.V.R. movement in New Zealand owes much to his interest and energy.
