HAIRDRESSERS’ BUSY
PERMANENT WAVES SUFFER IN SEA Ocean waves and permanent waves do not harmonise, judging by the number of women who have made appointments at Timaru beauty salons to have the damage done to their hair by sea-bathing repaired. The coiffures arranged for Christmas have suffered from the effects of the salt water and sun, and hairdressers are now busy resetting waves and shampooing. One salon reported that it had been exceptionally busy between Christmas and New Ye?r, and was now fully booked for a week, while others were much busier than they were after the holidays last year. In several cases it was noticed that the rush of holiday appointments began in November, instead of just a fortnight before Christmas. The manager of one establishment found business disappointing compared with last year, particularly in regard to appointments with visitors, but others experienced a steady stream of clients, although there were no more than last year.
