RECORD FOR A WOMAN By Telegraph—Press Association AUCKLAND, November 28. Auckland provincial athletes assembled on Saturday when the Auckland Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association held trials to select representatives to take part in the Dominion trials at Wellington on Saturday week. The outstanding performance of the day was that of Miss M. Mitchell in the women’s javelin throw. With a throw of 112 ft 2in Miss Mitchell bettered the previous Empire Games distance by 6ft 6iln, being 41ft under the world’s record. A. J. Sayers, Dominion and Auckland quarter mile champion, won his 100 yards heat and also the final of the 220 yards trial fairly easily in 23sec, but did not start in the quarter mile. The selection committee of the Auckland Centre—Messrs Carr, Moon, Dolan and Wily—have recommended the New Zealand selectors to invite the following athletes to take part in the New Zealand trials at Wellington: 100 yards, Stenberg and Denz (Baker is not available); 220 yards, Sayers, Stenberg and Denz; 440 yards, Sayers; (Continued in Previous Column.)
