ST. ANDREWS

ANGLICAN CHURCH JUBILEE PICNIC AT VICARAGE On Saturday afternoon 'the St. Andrews Anglican Church opened its jubilee celebrations with a picnic at the Vicarage grounds. The Vicarage which was built six years before the church is now surrounded by well kept gardens, lawns and trees, which made a cool retreat for the older people. Afternoon tea was served by the ladies of the parish on the tennis court. The success of the function reflected credit on Mr and Mrs Hay and family and members of the organising committee. During the afternoon the Rev. James Hay took the opportunity of welcoming all present, especially former parishioners who had travelled distances to attend the celebrations. He thanked Mrs J. Stowell for making the jubilee cake and Mrs Beattie for icing it. The cake was cut and a piece handed to all present. Other helpers were also thanked. Mr Hay read apologies from Mr and Mrs Armstrong, Hunter; Mr and Mrs H. Elworthy, Mr and Mrs Woodhouse, Mr and Mrs and Miss Mills and Mr and Mrs R. B. Williams.
