TEMUKA

PIONEERS’ SERVICE ANNUAL CELEBRATION ARRANGED Anniversary Day will this year be observed on Sunday, December 19, with the customary pioneers’ service, according to the Temuka Borough Council’s decision at a special meeting over which the Mayor (Mr A. W. Buzan) presided on Wednesday evening. This year the rotation of visits to the local churches brings the service to the Methodist Church, and the Council decided to approach the Rev. R. P. Keall to deliver the main address. A parade of pioneers through the town is contemplated as an opening to the service and, although death, has considerably thinned the ranks of the early settlers in the last 12 months, 117 invitations will be sent to those elegible to take part. The Pipe Band is to be invited to lead the procession, and invitations are to be sent to Mr T. D. Burnett, M.P., and Mrs Burnett to attend.
